Inter could become Serie A champions as early as Sunday, as explained by a report in the Italian media today.

Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition reported that the Nerazzurri now needed just five points to secure the title, following yesterday’s 1-0 win over Hellas Verona.

Inter will be guaranteed to win the scudetto if they reach 84 points, with AC Milan now the only other team capable of reaching that tally (but the Rossoneri would lose out on the head-to-head record in that instance).

Antonio Conte’s side will be champions at 17:00 CET on Sunday if they beat Crotone (on Saturday), Atalanta fail to beat Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium (on Sunday afternoon) and AC Milan drop points either against Lazio (tonight) or Benevento (on Saturday night).

Atalanta’s 5-0 victory over Bologna last night means Inter cannot wrap up the title on Saturday when they visit the Stadio Ezio Scida.

Even if Atalanta and AC Milan win all of their remaining games, though, Conte’s side need only one win and two draws from their last five matches to be certain of ending the club’s 10-year wait for a major trophy.
