Antonio Conte has the full backing of Inter’s dressing room as the Nerazzurri head towards next season, according to a report in the Italian media today.

La Repubblica’s print edition said Inter’s players were hoping Conte would remain head coach beyond the end of this season.

Conte and Suning intend to continue working together, which the report said would be heartening news for those Inter fans who had seen a long list of coaches come and go since Jose Mourinho left in 2010.

Inter’s head coach will nonetheless need clarity from Suning about their future plans for the club in the summer.

Conte is 52 years old now and the report pointed out that Carlo Ancelotti, Jose Mourinho, Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola had all won the UEFA Champions League by that age.

He is now said to be wondering whether Suning, who are seeking a €250 million loan deal to solve Inter’s financial problems, will be able to give him a strong enough squad to be key players in Europe next season.

Inter president Steven Zhang is expected to return to Milan in the next few days.
