Matteo Darmian was lauded as Inter’s ‘golden workhorse’ in today’s Italian papers after scoring the Nerazzurri’s winner against Hellas Verona.

Antonio Conte brought the Italian on with 25 minutes left and was rewarded with a calm finish on the counterattack following an assist from Achraf Hakimi.

Darmian was rated 7/10 for his super-sub display by Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport, with the workhorse comment coming from the latter.

Tuttosport handed the wing-back a rating of 7.5/10 and praised his ‘disarming calmness’ in front of goal, while his teammates were struggling to deal with the pressure of a huge game in their Serie A title bid.

Inter need just five points from their final five games to be certain of becoming champions, but it could be confirmed as early as Sunday if other results go their way.

Conte’s side have now won 13 straight home games in Serie A, the first time Inter have achieved that since 2011.
