Inter are on the brink of securing their Serie A title thanks to their ‘granitic’ defence, according to a report in the Italian media today.

The Nerazzurri need four points from their last five games but could already be confirmed as champions on Sunday, if they beat Crotone and Atalanta fail to win away at Sassuolo.

Tuttosport’s print edition highlighted that Inter’s goals had dried up since their 3-0 win over Genoa on February 28, yet they have continued to rack up points and pull clear at the top of the table.

This is because Inter have only conceded three goals in their last six games – two of which were gifts from Samir Handanovic – with eight clean sheets in 14 matches since the halfway mark of the campaign.

Inter finally became Serie A’s tightest defence last weekend after they beat Hellas Verona 1-0 and Juventus conceded in a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina.

Antonio Conte’s side have let in 29 goals in 33 games and they have only faced four shots on target in their last four matches (one in each game).

Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni have formed a rock-solid back three for the Nerazzurri, with Conte hardly ever resting any of them since the opening weeks of the season.
