Inter came close to signing Ezequiel Lavezzi on two separate occasions, the former forward confirmed on Tuesday.

Lavezzi was frequently linked with Inter during his spells with Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain, but the Nerazzurri never managed to secure the Argentine’s services.

He retired from football in 2019 after a three-year stint with Hebei in China, having scored a total of 161 goals during his career.

“I had the chance to come back to Serie A (from PSG), it’s true,” Lavezzi told Sky Sport Italia.

“I would never have joined Juventus but there was something with Inter, but I decided not to go.

“I was close to the Nerazzurri twice, but the first time I chose to join PSG and then the second time I went to China.

“I’ve always remained attached to Napoli and their fans, so I didn’t want to play for another team in Italy.”

Lavezzi joined Napoli from San Lorenzo in 2007 and spent five years with the Partenopei, helping them win the Coppa Italia against Antonio Conte’s Juventus in 2012.

He scored 48 goals in 188 appearances before leaving to join PSG for the 2012-13 season, where he secured three Ligue 1 titles and numerous other domestic trophies.

Lavezzi also made 51 appearances for Argentina’s national team, having made his debut back in April 2007.

The 35-year-old scored nine times for his country and started in the 2014 FIFA World Cup Final, where Argentina lost out 1-0 to Germany after extra-time.
