Inter have two key targets for the upcoming transfer window, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said the Nerazzurri would inevitably be forced to cut costs in a bid to address the club’s well-documented financial struggles.
Inter’s transfer business will have to be self-financed like it was last summer, meaning the club must sell players before they can sign reinforcements.
The Nerazzurri’s main aims are to reduce their wage bill and to lower the average age of their squad by offloading their older fringe players.
Inter have several older players gathering dust on Antonio Conte’s substitutes bench, so the club intend to replace them with younger profiles to create a more sustainable future.
Samir Handanovic is one notable exception to their plans to rejuvenating the squad, with the Milan-based paper assuring he would remain Inter’s first-choice goalkeeper for next season.
Inter’s bid to cut costs is already being assisted by Italian tax law, with the so-called ‘decreto crescita’ (growth decree) saving them an extra €30 million.
