Walter Zenga believes Antonio Conte should commit his long-term future for Inter even if they cannot guarantee him signings this summer.

Inter’s head coach is set to hold talks with club president Steven Zhang in the coming weeks to seek clarity ahead of next season.

Conte is reported by some sources to want reinforcements in order to stay at Inter beyond the summer, but Zenga admits he would not personally need such reassurances.

“If I was in Conte’s position, I’d commit to the Inter job even if they didn’t sign me anyone,” L’Uomo Ragno told Sky Sport Italia on Wednesday.

“My love for Inter is a love I’ve carried throughout my life.

“What’s for sure is that with another year of experience, Inter will be more competitive in the Champions League next season.”

Inter could be crowned Serie A champions as early as Sunday after pulling out an 11-point lead over second-placed Atalanta, with just five games left.

Conte’s side broke their rivals’ resistance with an 11-game winning run between January and April, and Zenga admits he is surprised to see such a gap at the top.

“Every team has had a negative period this season,” Zenga added.

“Inter had theirs after they went out of the UEFA Champions League, but from that moment they’ve done well to find new solutions and rebuild the team, becoming a compact and united side.

“It’s all been downhill from then.”

Zenga also picked out two players from Inter’s current side that he believed could have impressed in his team with Giovanni Trapattoni.

“Nicolo Barella could definitely have played in our Inter team, and then there’s Romelu Lukaku who’s a decisive presence,” Zenga argued.

“I’d be undecided on Lautaro Martinez because we had Ramon Diaz and Aldo Serena, and they were a formidable and perfect strike partnership.”
