Inter are in charge of Zinho Vanheusden’s future but he would be overjoyed to return to the Nerazzurri, according the defender’s father.

Vanheusden joined Standard Liege for a reported €12 million in 2018 and has rebuilt his career in Belgium after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Inter’s Primavera.

Inter are due to re-sign the 21-year-old for around €16 million in the summer, but reports are conflicting about the Nerazzurri’s intentions.

Speaking to FcInter1908.it last night, Vanheusden’s father Johan said: “It’s Inter who will have to decide his future.”

Standard Liege invested a lot of money to sign Vanheusden three years ago but Johan said he had not spoken to the club about his son’s future yet.

“Standard Liege have been Zinho’s team since he was 10 and after that there was Inter; he feels at home in both clubs.”

Vanheusden is still not fully fit after suffering a second serious injury earlier this season, which could potentially persuade Inter to leave him in Belgium for another season.

“It’s certainly his dream to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, but he’ll need to be 100% fit to have success with the Nerazzurri,” Johan added.

“At the moment, Standard Liege is the perfect club to help him become even stronger.”

Whatever happens for the centre-back in the summer, he is very keenly following the Nerazzurri as they head towards the Serie A title.

“This will be the season Zinho’s been awaiting for several years, Inter will become champions,” Johan said.

“He watches every game of theirs on TV.”z
