Inter will find it very difficult to secure a deal for Rodrigo de Paul in the summer, a report in the Italian media warned today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said De Paul had long since given his word to the Nerazzurri about a transfer, with Antonio Conte seeking another midfielder despite Christian Eriksen’s upturn in form.

Inter have yet to begin talks with Udinese over a deal for their captain because De Paul has a €40 million price tag, a fee Inter cannot afford given their financial problems.

Piero Ausilio would have to offer Udinese a two-year loan deal with an option to buy, the report explained, which would become an obligation to buy if certain conditions were met.

The Turin-based paper argued De Paul’s situation was beginning to resemble that of Sandro Tonali last year, when the former Brescia midfielder promised himself to Inter before the Nerazzurri were priced out of a move.

Inter’s hopes of signing De Paul will therefore depend on Udinese’s willingness to grant them a more favourable deal – but as the report pointed out, the 26-year-old has interest from all over Europe, from clubs including Juventus and Liverpool.

It is therefore difficult to understand, they suggested, why Udinese would want to concede such favourable conditions for one of Europe’s most sought-after midfielders.

De Paul has scored eight goals and provided nine assists for Udinese in all competitions this season.
