Antonio Conte and Beppe Marotta are the architects of Inter’s likely Serie A title triumph, according to Nerazzurri legend Riccardo Ferri.

Inter need just four points from their final five games to be confirmed as champions for the first time since 2010, but it could become official as early as Sunday.

Conte’s side would be guaranteed the scudetto if they beat Crotone tomorrow and Atalanta fail to beat Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Leggo today, former Inter defender Ferri said: “Winning the scudetto is the result of a clear and well-defined project, and I’m not just talking about the decision to hire Conte.

“I’d go further back than that to the arrival of Marotta.

“If Conte has raised the bar in the dressing room, Marotta has done so in Inter’s offices.

“They are two professional and ambitious people with a desire to achieve important results.”

Conte was appointed as Inter’s head coach in the summer of 2019 and has transformed the Nerazzurri, who had only secured UEFA Champions League qualification on the final day of the last season before his arrival.

Marotta joined in December 2018 and was instrumental in bringing Conte to the club, having won three Serie A titles together with the former midfielder at Juventus.

“Inter reached the UEFA Europa League final last season and finished second in Serie A,” Ferri continued.

“This year, the team has come out of its shell even more.

“Inter’s players have a great sense of attachment, they’re solid and they want to fight right until the end.”

Ferri made 418 appearances for Inter and scored eight goals, helping the Nerazzurri win one Serie A title (in 1989) and two UEFA Cup trophies.
