Inter have a diplomatic job on their hands to repair relations with Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Tuttosport’s print edition said Sala ‘had not forgotten’ the harsh tones used by the Nerazzurri last month, when they attacked him for comments he made about their uncertain ownership situation.

Sala is prepared to meet Inter to resume their dialogue about plans to build a new stadium, but he is waiting for them to make the first move and ask him for talks.

If Inter president Steven Zhang wants to speak with Sala to break the deadlock, it will need to be him who picks up the phone and arranges the meeting.

Sala is convinced Zhang would never have permitted himself to attack political figures in China like Inter did with him last month, the report added.

Inter will need to use diplomacy to smooth over their relations before they can make progress towards building a new San Siro.

A new stadium would help increase Inter’s value as a club and push forward Suning’s overall project, something the Turin-based paper said would be crucial in a period where they are seeking investors.
