Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen admitted that he would be delighted if his goal in today’s 2-0 win over Crotone proved decisive in securing the Scudetto this season.
The Denmark international stepped off the bench to net the opener in the second half, before Achraf Hakimi sealed the victory in stoppage time, as Inter moved to the brink of becoming champions. Indeed, Antonio Conte’s side will win the title tomorrow if Atalanta fail to record victory over Sassuolo.
In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle at the Stadio Ezio Scifa, Eriksen spoke of his joy at the goal and hoped it would have lasting significance.
“It’s not officially the Scudetto-winning goal, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow,” the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder declared.
“We are very close to the title. I am very happy with the goal, I have not scored many but if this is the Scudetto-winning goal I will be delighted.”
Eriksen also revealed that he would spend tomorrow at home, with Atalanta’s match potentially handing Inter the title.
“Tomorrow? I will stay with the family,” he concluded.
Should Atalanta record the win over Sassuolo, Inter have the opportunity to win the title at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza next weekend against Sampdoria.
