Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen recognised the importance of his goal in the 2-0 win over Crotone today, as the Nerazzurri close in on the Scudetto.

Antonio Conte’s side sealed victory at the Stadio Ezio Scida thanks to a second half strike from Eriksen, before Achraf Hakimi followed up in stoppage time. It means Inter will be crowned champions tomorrow if Atalanta fail to beat Sassuolo, winning the title for the first time since 2010.

In an interview with InterTV the final whistle, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder admitted that Serie A’s bottom club had caused some trouble but was glad to have broken the deadlock and moved Inter closer to the title.

“It was a difficult match against a difficult team. We had many tough matches and we are a bit tired but the coach asked us to continue playing with our style and in the end we did it,” Eriksen claimed.

“We expected a very difficult match, they fought for their life and we for ours but in the end we are happy.”

Eriksen’s goal came after a pass from striker Romelu Lukaku and the Dane joked that he was due an assist.

“It was time he gave me an assist!  He always creates great chances, he’s a great striker. Now let’s wait and see what happens tomorrow. We can celebrate tomorrow, or else we’ll do it another time. It’s not a problem,” Eriksen added.

The victory also condemned Crotone to relegation, with the Pitagorici set for an immediate return to Serie B after only a single season in the top flight,
