Inter’s Serie A match against Sampdoria next Saturday will not be rescheduled, regardless of whether it will be decisive in the Nerazzurri’s Scudetto hopes.
Should Atalanta fail to beat Sassuolo later today, Antonio Conte’s side will be crowned champions, but Inter may yet have the opportunity to win the title on their own turf by earning a win or a draw against Sampdoria at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian Ministry of Interior requested that the match be brought forward from the current 18:00 CET kick-off time, to avoid COVID-19 curfews in Milan if fans celebrate a first title since 2010.
However, these have been rejected by the Lega Serie A as the behind-closed-doors match does not meet the prerequisite of needing to be moved for public safety.
Current television scheduling is also a factor in the decision to reject the request, with Spezia vs Napoli and Udinese vs Bologna already both scheduled to be broadcast at 15:00 CET that day.
