Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen deserves all the credit for his turnaround in form after being poorly managed by the Nerazzurri, Italian journalist Riccardo Trevisani argues.
The Denmark international has become a key figure under Antonio Conte in the second half of the season and came off the bench to score the opener in a 2-0 win over Crotone yesterday, putting Inter on the brink of the Scudetto.
Eriksen joined the Nerazzurri from Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 but failed to make an impact, with rare appearances from the bench late on in matches until the turn of the year.
Appearing on Italian television channel Sky Sport Italia yesterday, Trevisani claimed that the 29-year-old was reaping the rewards for being patient and never complaining, whilst criticising his treatment by Inter prior to him finding form.
“Could he have given something more to Conte’s victory? No, otherwise he would have played earlier,” Trevisani stated.
“Eriksen’s victory is for him only, after was able to endure the unbearable. Coming on in the 88th, 89th, 90th minutes of matches and managing to not to throw his boot at those who did it to him. Six months before joining Inter he had played in the Champions League Final with Tottenham.”
The journalist praised Eriksen for his continued professionalism and felt that he had lost a year of his career during the first 12 months of his time with Inter.
“Being treated like a warehouse worker wasn’t easy. Eriksen showed an exercise in patience, civility, and professionalism from which we all should learn. He was given nothing.
“Indeed, perhaps a year of his career has been taken away from him. Inter tried to sell him in all possible and unimaginable ways and Conte tried not to play in all possible and unimaginable ways. The only victory I see is Eriksen’s,” he concluded.
