Inter director Alessandro Antonello has spoken of the incredible joy at seeing the Nerazzurri win the Scudetto this season.

Antonio Conte’s side were crowned champions yesterday after Atalanta’s 1-1 draw against Sassuolo left them clear at the top of the table, securing a first Scudetto since 2010.

In an interview with InterTV, Antonello described the emotions at seeing his boyhood club become champions, whilst thanking those involved within the Nerazzurri for achieving the success after a challenging season.

“It is a unique emotion, as an Interista and as Inter CEO, to experience this from the inside is something special,” Antonello declared.

“I would like to thank Mr Conte and the players who have worked in an incredible way this year to achieve this goal. All those who work for the club, who have given important support behind the scenes and our partners and sponsors who have supported us over the years, especially in this very different one.

“Thanks also go out to our fans who unfortunately could not be at the San Siro to join us but who have always shown their support to the team and to the club.”

The CEO also revealed that the title success had been five years in the making since Suning took over the club, with this season’s triumph the culmination of long-term planning and hard work.

“It is a project that started five years ago thanks to the Zhang family, who have helped us along this path of growth over the years. It is a moment of success after such hard work and planning. With the effort the team made this year in difficult conditions and without our fans at the stadium, it deserves even greater acclaim.”

As with every other club in Serie A, Inter have faced a tumultuous season in the face of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, and after acknowledging the difficulties of the campaign, Antonello dedicated the Scudetto to health and key workers across Italy.

“Winning a title in a normal circumstances is already very difficult. Winning it in these conditions with a pandemic that has created many economic problems makes us even more proud of the result we have achieved.

“In this regard I would like to thank all the health workers, doctors, nurses, and volunteers who during the year have supported all those who have suffered. They are still working in a very important way to allow us to get out of this pandemic as quickly as possible. It is a title that must also be dedicated to them,” he concluded.
