Javier Zanetti has thanked Antonio Conte and Inter’s players for their ‘extraordinary’ work en route to the club’s 19th Serie A title.
Inter were confirmed as champions yesterday for the first time since 2010, when Zanetti was still the club’s captain, after Atalanta were held to a 1-1 draw away at Sassuolo.
The Nerazzurri have ended Juventus’ nine-year dominance in Serie A and look well set to continue at the top of Italian football for years to come.
“Thank you to mister Conte, the staff that works with him and all the players,” Zanetti told Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition today.
“This victory is the result of extraordinary work and a united group.
“We faced every challenge and difficult moment together, always with courage and resilience.
“Inter have a proud history and you’ve written another very important page in that history.
“I was proud to be captain of the last Inter team to win Serie A and I’m just as proud to be the club’s vice-president for this title.
“Thanks to you, Inter have triumphed again and are back where they deserve to be; we’re champions of Italy!
“It’s an honour to be by your side in this splendid adventure, thank you again and congratulations to everyone.”
Inter are 13 points clear of Atalanta, AC Milan and Juventus with four games left, meaning they can no longer be caught and can start the celebrations.
Conte’s side will be back in action on Saturday evening against Sampdoria before finishing their Serie A campaign against Roma, Juventus and Udinese.
Inter have 82 points in the Serie A table and could yet reach 94 if they win all of their remaining games.
