Antonio Conte shares one key trait with his coaching idol and Inter predecessor Giovanni Trapattoni, according to former Nerazzurri president Ernesto Pellegrini.

Conte led Inter to their first Serie A title in 11 years this season, which was confirmed on Sunday after Atalanta were held to a draw by Sassuolo.

Inter’s boss has been compared in some quarters to former club coaches Jose Mourinho, Helenio Herrera and Trapattoni (although Walter Zenga isn’t so convinced yet).

Speaking to TuttoMercatoWeb (via FcInterNews.it) earlier this week, Pellegrini argued: “Conte and Trapattoni seem like different characters to me but I can see the same kind of determination in Conte that Trap had.

“I can see that same desire to win and obtain victories at all costs.

“They share this level of ambition.”

Inter are back where they belong at the top of Serie A and Pellegrini couldn’t hide his joy at seeing the Nerazzurri restored to their former glories.

“There’s a lot of joy and happiness, I’ve written to Steven Zhang and Beppe Marotta as well as Inter’s other directors and Conte,” he added.

“Conte obviously deserves credit for the way he managed the group, but you have to divide up the credit for the way this Inter team was built.

“Inter have proven they are a winning team.”

Inter have four games left this season before they can turn attention to next year, with Conte’s side still due to face Sampdoria, Roma, Juventus and Udinese.

They will hope to defend their title next season while also making progress in the UEFA Champions League.
