Inter have two players in their squad who deserved to become Serie A champions more than anyone else, according to Gianfelice Facchetti.

The Nerazzurri were confirmed as champions on Sunday for the first time since 2010, after they beat Crotone and Atalanta were held to a draw at Sassuolo.

Gianfelice, son of Inter legend Giacinto, has picked out Samir Handanovic and Andrea Ranocchia as being particularly worthy of credit and celebration.

“Handanovic is the first person I think of as someone who deserves the scudetto,” Facchetti said (via FcInterNews.it).

“He’s the captain and a player who gets too little recognition for what he’s given to Inter.

“Ranocchia is effectively Inter’s second captain, he’s been at the club for 10 years with a couple of brief departures (on loan to Hull City and Sampdoria).

“He has joined Inter’s cause completely.”

Facchetti also had words of praise for Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella, both of whom have played undeniably pivotal roles in Inter’s title triumph this season.

“We’re all in love with Lukaku,” he argued.

“The footage of him celebrating in the city with his car like any other Inter fan gives you a great idea of how spontaneous his celebration was.

“I’d put him in the front row alongside Barella, I’m a crazy fan of the midfielder because he’s unique.”

Antonio Conte made a courageous decision to join Inter in 2019 after his past at Juventus, but it has clearly paid off after less than two years in charge.

Facchetti could not speak highly enough of Conte and his achievement this season, adding: “He made a difficult decision because he had a lot to lose by coming to Inter, but he’s managed to win here too.

“He’s already earned himself a place among the great coaches who have been at this club.”

Inter are back in action on Saturday when they welcome Sampdoria to San Siro.
