Milan Skriniar is still coming to terms with the idea of being a Serie A champion with Inter.

Inter clinched their 19th league title on Sunday after they beat Crotone (on Saturday) and Atalanta were held to a draw away at Sassuolo.

The Nerazzurri are confirmed as champions with four games to spare, ending an 11-year wait for the scudetto following their treble season in 2010.

“I’m having indescribable feelings, it’s an unreal joy,” Skriniar told Slovakian publication sport.sk today.

“I admit I didn’t expect us to win the title on Sunday, I thought we’d finish it off against Sampdoria on Saturday.

“It’s happened and I’m just happy that it ended up like this.

“It’s an enormous success for me, the club and the fans, who have been waiting after all for 11 years…”

Skriniar was a pivotal figure in Inter’s three-man defence this season, which has conceded fewer goals than any other team in Serie A.

Antonio Conte seemed to have discarded the centre-back at the end of last season, but Skriniar worked his way back into contention and hasn’t looked back since.

“This is naturally the biggest achievement of my career,” the 26-year-old admitted.

“It’s very difficult to win an Italian title, especially in a season which saw us knocked out of the UEFA Champions League and Coppa Italia.

“It’s incredible and I’ll probably only understand everything with time.

“I’d like to dedicate this title to all Slovaks, a lot of people have written to me from home and in Italy and I’m very happy to have brought the scudetto to our country.”

Skriniar is delighted with Inter’s title success but admits there is one sad aspect to the Nerazzurri’s celebrations.

“The only thing I’m disappointed about is that we can’t celebrate with our fans,” he explained.

“When I think that we’d have played against Sampdoria as champions, in front of a packed San Siro…

“I’ve seen pictures of the city (Milan), it was covered in our black-and-blue colours on Sunday night.

“The roads were full of Inter fans.”

Skriniar was in no mood to downplay the magnitude of Inter’s achievement, after almost a decade in which Serie A had only been won by one team.

“We’ve managed to end nine years of dominance from Juventus, and this really is a big achievement,” the defender added.
