Lautaro Martinez has pinpointed the moment Inter took flight towards the Serie A title this season.
The Nerazzurri were confirmed as champions with four games to spare on Sunday, ending their 10-year wait for a major trophy in emphatic fashion.
Antonio Conte’s side were less successful in the cup competitions than they were in the league, but Lautaro believes their UEFA Champions League debacle turned out to be a positive for their title bid.
Responding to supporters on social media (via FcInter1908.it), El Toro said: “The decisive moment was when we went out of the Champions League and Europa League.
“It was the key moment, we made a step and changed our mindset.”
Inter were expected to progress from their Champions League group but remarkably finished bottom below Real Madrid, Borussia Monchengladbach and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Conte’s side were two matches into an eight-game winning run when they were eliminated from Europe, which was followed by an even more incredible 11-game streak between January and April.
Lautaro has set a new personal goal record for a single Serie A campaign this year, finding the net on 15 occasions.
