Antonio Conte could be asked to take a pay cut to remain at Inter, according to a leading Italian broadcaster today.

As per Sport Mediaset (via FcInter1908.it), Nerazzurri president Steven Zhang told club directors yesterday that Inter would need to slash costs and lower their wage bill ahead of next season.

Conte ‘didn’t expect’ this move from Zhang, who could reportedly ask all of Inter’s players and directors to renegotiate parts of their contracts.

Inter’s boss earns €13.5 million annually and could be set for a contract renewal with a reduced salary, the report claimed.

Zhang is having to front up a delicate economic situation at Inter, with the Nerazzurri having been very heavily hit by losses incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Inter may need to sacrifice one or more key players in the transfer window to balance the books, with one report today claiming Milan Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij could be sold.
