Lautaro Martinez has thanked Antonio Conte for making him a far more complete striker at Inter.

El Toro set a new personal best tally for goals in a single Serie A season (15) as Inter stormed to their first league title in 11 years.

Conte has transformed Inter’s fortunes since becoming their head coach in 2019 and he appears to have had a profound individual impact on Lautaro as well.

Speaking to TYC Sports in Argentina, the Inter striker revealed: “Romelu Lukaku and I have done a great job together, we help each other out a lot.

“We’ve both improved thanks to Conte, it’s very important for us to have someone like this.

“Conte improves you every day, he arrived with the desire to develop players tactically, physically and in a footballing sense.

“Our results, goals and assists come from our work on a daily basis (in training).”

Lautaro has enjoyed a fantastic third season at Inter in which he has developed into one of Europe’s most coveted strikers.

“I’m very happy with the moment I’m going through and for the title we secured,” the 23-year-old explained.

“Inter hadn’t won for a long time, they’d gone 10 or 11 years without winning a title and I think we did a great job in the league.

“We’re worthy champions for what we’ve done throughout the year and for the lead we have over second place (13 points).”

Lautaro joined Inter from Racing Club in 2018 and he believes he has improved multiple aspects of his game by playing in Serie A.

“Italian football helps you improve a lot because you work a lot on tactics,” he revealed.

“You play against teams who play with five defenders and don’t leave much space, which has improved me lots.

“I’ve played lots of minutes this season, I’ve played every game and this is very important.

“I’ve improved physically and in a footballing sense, so I’m happy.

“I consider this year to be one of the best in my career in terms of learning things, in a footballing sense and in a technical and physical sense.”

Lautaro also spoke about his relationship with Inter legend Diego Milito, who was briefly his teammate while at Racing Club.

“I’ve learned a lot from Diego,” he recalled.

“When he came back to Racing Club I started getting called up to train with the first team, and I’m grateful for every call and word he’s had for me.

“People don’t know this but he always calls me when things aren’t going well; when things are going well he doesn’t call…

“Milito talks to me, advises me and gives his opinion.

“I’m very grateful for everything we’ve gone through over time and for the time we spent sharing a dressing room.”
