Inter remain keen on a deal to sign Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition said the Serbian would become the Nerazzurri’s first-choice target if they were forced to sell Milan Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij.
Milenkovic has been on Piero Ausilio and Beppe Marotta’s radar for some time and the centre-back could well leave Fiorentina – with whom he is under contract until 2022 – in the summer.
The 23-year-old told the Viola’s in-house TV channel yesterday: “I can only say thank you for everything this city, this club and these fans have given me.
“I’ve become a man here at Fiorentina.”
Inter do not need to strengthen their defensive options in terms of their starting XI, but the Milan-based paper warned things could change if they received offers for Skriniar or De Vrij.
Both defenders have lots of interest and Inter will be obliged to listen to whatever offers arrived, and they could accept if someone were to come in with an ‘irrefutable’ bid.
Milenkovic joined Fiorentina from FK Partizan in 2017 and has made 34 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals.
