Real Madrid are working to snatch Lautaro Martinez away from Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Calciomercato.com revealed the La Liga giants had made an initial approach to the striker’s agent Alejandro Camano, who also manages Achraf Hakimi and with whom they are on great terms.

Inter have fixed Lautaro’s price tag at €90 million but Real Madrid are convinced they can secure the 23-year-old for a smaller fee.

Los Blancos want to exploit the fact that Inter have so far only paid one installment of Achraf Hakimi’s €40 million transfer fee, by telling the Nerazzurri: ‘Keep Hakimi’s money, we’ll give you another €30 million and we’ll sign Lautaro’.

Inter are not willing to negotiate for that sort of money, but Camano will continue his diplomatic work in the hope he can reduce the distance between the two clubs’ valuations.

Real Madrid’s idea to sign Lautaro is ‘real’ although talks are only in an embryonic phase, with further updates potentially coming soon.

Florentino Perez dreams of signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain, but El Toro is a more realistic target and was a player he already chased last summer when Barcelona were also interested.

Inter will need to cut costs in the summer to cope with their financial problems, the report confirmed, but they will also likely need to sacrifice a player or two in the transfer window.
