Former Inter defender Ivan Cordoba has urged the club to move for Atalanta striker Luis Muriel this summer and link up with current forwards Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
In an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of Libero, former Colombia international defender Cordoba suggested that Inter pursue their interest in compatriot Muriel and felt that his addition could elevate the Nerazzurri’s attacking prowess.
“I could see Luis Muriel doing very well at Inter. There were years when he struggled for consistency but he has found this under [Atalanta coach Gian Piero] Gasperini and it’s bringing the best out of him,” the 44-year-old claimed.
“Inter lack someone like Luis, together with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku they could have an atomic attack.”
Cordoba was pleased to see Inter win the Scudetto this season and felt that the club could enjoy a period of sustained success, whilst also addressing comparisons with young Italian centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.
“Inter can start a period of dominance because they have a squad of great character. Despite the financial difficulties the team remained focused.
“(Bastoni) has different qualities to me but he has already shown great maturity. I hope he can become a symbol of Inter,” he added.
Cordoba joined Inter from Argentine club San Lorenzo in 2000 and went on to make 455 appearances in 12 and a half seasons, scoring 18 goals.
The former Colombia captain won five Serie A titles with Inter and helped the club win the Champions League in 2010.
