Inter would be better off without Suning because they are racking up too much debt, a leading Italian journalist has argued.

The Nerazzuri are braced for a difficult summer after club president Steven Zhang outlined the need to cut costs and reduce their wage bill ahead of next season.

Inter are at risk of having to sell key players to balance the books, with reports yesterday suggesting Milan Skriniar or Stefan de Vrij could be sacrificed.

Speaking to TMW Radio on Friday, Mario Sconcerti argued: “If I were looking for Inter’s best interests, I’d ask myself what benefits them and perhaps part ways with Zhang.

“I don’t know how convenient it is to remain connected to a rich company (Suning) who are paying off debts with more debts.

“I don’t think Inter have been managed extraordinarily well.”

Inter’s owners are set for talks with Antonio Conte in the coming weeks to outline their plans for the coming months.

Conte’s future remains uncertain because he has repeatedly refused to commit his future to the club, instead encouraging everyone to focus on the present and enjoy their Serie A title triumph.

“I’m suspicious about the way Conte has kept his cards close to his chest,” Sconcerti admitted.

“He knew the general direction of travel from the owners before now.

“Inter have a significant level of debt, it’s now higher than they’re worth as a club themselves.

“It’s not a brilliant situation and they’ll need to take some measures, but it’s not yet clear what kind.”

Inter will play their first match since being crowned champions later when they welcome Sampdoria to San Siro.
