Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is closing in on a new contract at the club but this would not rule him out of a sale to Real Madrid this summer.
As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Tuttosport, the Argentina international could sign improved terms this week as his agent, Alejandro Camano, arrives in Milan to finalise lengthy negotiations over a new deal.
However, Martinez has emerged as a transfer target for La Liga champions Real Madrid and Inter’s financial woes could see him depart, regardless of a new contract.
The former Racing Club striker has a €111 million release clause in his contract that remains valid but Inter may yet accept €90m for the 23-year-old.
Real Madrid’s approach is bolstered by their sale of Achraf Hakimi to Inter last summer, with €32m of the €45m agreement yet to be paid, and this could be used to soften the deal.
Similarly, the Spanish club may offer striker Luka Jovic to Inter on loan in return for Martinez and Nerazzurri director Piero Ausilio has long been an admirer of the Serb.
Inter’s primary attacking target remains Roma veteran Edin Dzeko though and they could offer a multi-year €7.5m per season contract to the former Manchester City striker.
