Inter President Steven Zhang is determined to cut costs at the club this summer and could cash in on high-profile players in order to balance the books.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Nerazzurri’s current wage bill stands at around €220 million per season and is considered unsustainable by Zhang, particularly as he seeks investment to counter debts at the club.

The 29-year-old would like to bring the wage bill down by 15% and will focus on this before committing to any new transfers, with high-earning players at Inter seeing their futures cast into doubt.

Forward Alexis Sanchez is the third highest earning player at €7m per season and Inter will look for suitors in order to get him off their books. Meanwhile, his Chilean compatriot Arturo Vidal has not done enough to convince the Nerazzurri in his first season and may also be offloaded, clearing his €6.5m wages.

Zhang is keen to retain the most important players in coach Antonio Conte’s side but this may only be possible by sacrificing other prominent figures in the squad, with a fear that at least one first team regular may need to be sold in the summer.

At least one of defenders Milan Skriniar and Stefan De Vrij, along with Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic, could be let go in order to raise funds and protect the core of the squad.
