Marseille have abandoned their pursuit of Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal and no longer consider a move for him viable in the summer transfer window.
According to Le10Sport, the Ligue 1 club have been tracking Chile international Vidal for some time and had hoped to secure him for next season, after he underwhelmed in his debut campaign for Inter.
However, the plans have now been abandoned as Marseille feel unable to commit to meeting Vidal’s wage demands, with the former Juventus midfielder determined to retain his €6.5 million per season deal in Italy.
Inter would be keen to let him to go to the French club as they look to get him off their wage bill and had even been considering contributing to his wages should a deal be struck.
Whilst Marseille coach Jorge Sampaoli had been keen to bring Vidal in and build his midfield around the 33-year-old, a lack of Champions League football next season has also made convincing the player to join impossible.
Vidal arrived at Inter from Barcelona at the start of the season and has made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice.
