Inter have decided not to resign Belgian defender Zinho Vanheusden this summer, with doubts over his fitness leading them to opt against a deal.

The 21-year-old came came through Inter’s Primavera side and was sent out to former club Standard Liege on loan in 2018, before joining the Belgian outfit permanently the following season.

As reported by FCInterNews.it, the Nerazzurri had an informal agreement to be able to buy Vanheusden back for €15 million this summer, but have informed Standard that they will not take up this option.

The centre-back has suffered three serious injuries in his career, most recently a season-ending knee injury in October, and there are fears that he may not recover to his former level.

Meanwhile, the cost of bringing him back to the club has put Inter off, with financial difficulties making a €15m commitment beyond what they are willing to spend.

With Aleksandar Kolarov set to be released this summer, Vanheusden would come in as his replacement and Inter have decided against spending on a back-up player.

Instead, the Nerazzurri will look to integrate Lorenzo Pirola in the first team squad after his loan spell at Monza this season.
