Despite winning the Scudetto this season, Inter have already begun plans to cut costs and will ask players to waive their wages in the coming months.

The Nerazzurri ended an 11-year drought by winning the Serie A title under coach Antonio Conte this term and enjoyed a comprehensive 5-1 win over Sampdoria yesterday.

However, as reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere della Sera, the financial situation at the club remains troublesome and President Steven Zhang is looking to the players to ease the burden.

CEO Beppe Marotta confirmed that the players would be paid agreed bonuses for winning the league after fears that they would be expected to give these up, but Zhang will meet the team tomorrow to ask that they forego one to two months’ worth of wages.

The squad are free to refuse this request and there is an expectation that it will cause consternation within the group after their efforts on the pitch this season.

Conte himself is undecided on his future and will wait for further clarification on the club’s plans and a meeting with Zhang before committing one way or the other.
