Inter President Steven Zhang is set to meet the squad this week to open discussions over the deferral of wages, as he tries to bring the dire financial situation at the club under control.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Zhang joined the squad in celebration of their Scudetto success after their 5-1 win over Sampdoria at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza yesterday but will soon turn his attention to combatting the financial issues.

The players will be asked to defer up to two months’ worth of wages and whilst the squad are not set to openly revolt against the request, there is considerable unhappiness after their efforts on the pitch brought a first league title since 2010.

Inter would not be the first team to reach an agreement on wage deferrals, with Juventus and Roma also following a similar path, but a wage bill of €220 million has seen Zhang target a reduction of 15%.

The Nerazzurri will also look to offload high earners such as Chilean pair Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal this summer, on €7m and €6.5m per season respectively.

Whilst the club are determined to retain the most crucial players at the club, there is a fear that this may only be achieved by cashing in on some other first team regulars, including Marcelo Brozovic, Milan Skriniar, and Stefan De Vrij.
