Steven Zhang has asked Inter’s players to take pay cuts to help the club with their financial problems, according to a leading Italian broadcaster this afternoon.
As per Sky Sport Italia, Zhang held a ‘frank’ discussion with the first-team squad at Appiano Gentile today in which he asked everyone to give up two months’ wages.
Inter’s president spoke for around 15 minutes, explaining the Nerazzurri’s current difficulties, with chief executives Beppe Marotta and Alessandro Antonello also present.
Antonio Conte was not involved in the discussion, although he will also require a meeting with Zhang at some point to discuss Suning’s plans for next season.
Zhang did not discuss the Serie A title bonuses due to Inter’s players during today’s conversation, although Marotta told reporters on Saturday that they would be paid as normal.
Inter’s players were reported by this morning’s papers to be against the idea of taking a pay cut, although Zhang had not discussed it with anyone until today.
