Inter supporters should be very concerned by news that Suning are asking players for wage cuts, according to the Nerazzurri’s former CEO Ernesto Paolillo.

As per reports in Italy today, the Nerazzurri’s squad is likely to reject the request from Steven Zhang amid fears over how Suning dealt with FC Jiangsu earlier this year.

Inter are not in danger of receiving a points deduction because they will respect their payment obligations, but the situation is clearly far from rosy behind the scenes.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia last night, Paolillo said: “The request to give up two monthly installments, at a time when you’re normally dealing with paying out bonuses (for winning the scudetto), is a very bad sign.

“It means Inter’s project is not continuing and that it will be difficult to build a competitive team (for next season).”

Inter were on cloud nine little over a week ago when Antonio Conte’s side secured the club’s first Serie A title in more than a decade.

The atmosphere in the camp seems to have deteriorated since then, though, with very little certainty over what comes next.

“Inter were supposed to be at the beginning of a project which had been magnificently built by Beppe Marotta,” Paolillo explained.

“They’re starting to see the results of this work, but now there’s a crisis which meant salaries weren’t paid until recently.

“They’re now looking at a fund which should give them a loan deal worth €250 million, which is a lot of money.”

Inter will return to Serie A action tomorrow when they welcome Roma to San Siro, but it seems all attention is focused on off-pitch matters at the moment.
