Inter fans are squabbling with Juventus supporters over the idea of getting a guard of honour for Saturday’s Derby d’Italia, a report in the Italian media has explained.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition on Monday, Inter supporters would like to receive the same treatment they got from Sampdoria at the weekend when they visit the Allianz Stadium.

Some fans have recalled that Inter applauded AC Milan onto the pitch before a Milan derby in December 2007, after the Rossoneri won the FIFA Club World Cup.

Juventus fans have a very different view, pointing out that Andrea Agnelli congratulated Inter for winning the Serie A title with a tweet last weekend – something the Nerazzurri never did while Juventus were collecting scudetti in recent seasons.

Inter have not offered a fair-play gesture like that during the last few years, and in fact they did quite the opposite in 2017 when they congratulated Real Madrid for beating Juventus in the UEFA Champions League final.

It remains to be seen whether Antonio Conte’s side will get any more guards of honour before the season ends.
