Romelu Lukaku is fulfilling a lifelong dream by playing for Inter and loves life under Antonio Conte.
Inter’s star striker scored 21 goals en route to the Serie A title this season, underlining his reputation as the Nerazzurri’s most important player.
Lukaku is due to start tomorrow’s next match at home to Roma and was interviewed for Inter’s match-day program ahead of the game at San Siro.
“When I’m playing at San Siro, I realise I’ve fulfilled one of my lifetime dreams,” the Belgian admitted.
“I’ve always wanted to play for Inter: wearing this shirt is an incredible honour and winning something here is remarkable.
“I’m an Interista!”
Lukaku nearly joined Conte when he was coaching at Chelsea in 2017, but he only had to wait another two years before they were united at last.
“I knew we’d have a special relationship right from the start,” the 27-year-old revealed.
“I wrote to him in 2019 and said: ‘I’m coming.’
“This team has won the title because it got stronger thanks to an exceptional team spirit; we’ve transferred our desire to win between one another.”
Lukaku also picked his favourite goal from this season’s title triumph, which came during Inter’s 3-0 win over AC Milan in February’s Derby della Madonnina.
“The third goal against AC Milan shows off all my characteristics,” he explained.
“I used my running ability, my power and my precision.
“It was a very significant goal for me and for our season.”
Inter signed Lukaku in a club-record transfer from Manchester United in 2019, paying a reported €65 million to the Premier League giants (with a further €10 million in add-ons).
He was rested for Saturday’s 5-1 thrashing of Sampdoria but will be back in the side to play Roma, against whom he scored a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw last July.
