Marcelo Brozovic remains hopeful of signing a contract extension at Inter, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per Gazzetta.it, the midfielder has come close to leaving the Nerazzurri on several occasions but he remains happy at Inter and wants to stay.
Brozovic’s contract currently expires in 2022, but his father Ivan – who is managing the Croatian’s interests after Brozovic split with agent Miroslav Bicanic – is hoping to secure an extension.
Ivan is expected to meet with Inter’s directors at the end of the season, alongside some lawyers, where he will request a pay rise for his son (who currently earns €3.5 million annually).
Brozovic’s future remains uncertain for now and there is no guarantee Inter will grant a renewal, especially given the club’s ongoing financial woes.
In any case, Antonio Conte would never want to lose Brozovic and this could persuade the club to keep the 28-year-old.
Elsewhere, Inter are hoping to get Arturo Vidal’s €6.5 million annual salary off their wage bill by offloading the midfielder to another club.
Marseille remains the most likely destination for Vidal, where he would be reunited with his former Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli, while Galatasaray are also interested (but don’t have the player’s approval for a move).
Matias Vecino is expected to follow Vidal out of the door in the summer, with the Uruguayan no longer part of Conte’s plans going forward.
The former Fiorentina midfielder is earning €2.5 million annually and Suning hope they can secure fresh resources by selling Vecino elsewhere.
