Antonio Conte and Beppe Marotta’s futures at Inter are in serious doubt, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As per Corriere della Sera’s print edition, there is no certainty that Conte – one of Europe’s best coaches – and Marotta – Italy’s best director – will stay at the club for next season.

Everything will depend on the meeting Conte has with Inter president Steven Zhang once the season ends, but the signs are not wholly positive as things stand.

Conte and Marotta are not convinced that Inter will be capable of marrying austerity with success on the pitch, the report claimed.

Inter’s plans are complicated even further by the fact that key players like Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella are extremely attached to Conte.

The Milan-based paper said Lukaku and Barella had signed up to Conte’s project at Inter more than they had to Zhang’s, which means they could ask to leave as well if their boss walks out.

In addition to Conte’s talks with Zhang, another key event for Inter will be the individual meetings Zhang has with players about taking wage cuts.

It remains to be seen how many will accept the president’s request to give up two months’ wages, the report concluded.
