Antonio Conte is not relaxed and cannot be certain to stay at Inter next season, according to a report in the Italian media today.
Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said Inter’s head coach was anxiously awaiting face-to-face talks with president Steven Zhang, where the pair will discuss Suning’s future plans for the club.
Conte would like to stay at Inter and continue the work he has done up until now, and he made that clear only a few weeks ago after the Nerazzurri’s match against Hellas Verona.
However, he needs reassurance from Suning about how competitive Inter’s team will be next season, as well as what kind of role he will have within the club going forward.
Conte cannot contemplate the idea of another season like this one, the Rome-based paper explained, with endless speculation about Suning and the future of the club.
He could well decide to leave if Inter are set to make ‘a backwards step’ and downscale their ambitions, perhaps selling off some key players.
Conte is a guarantee for Inter’s key players, meaning that they should agree to remain at the club if he continues as head coach.
If Conte opts to leave, lots of players could decide to follow him out of the club and at that point Inter would be in big trouble.
