Arturo Vidal is moving ever closer to joining Marseille in the summer, according to a report in the Italian media today.
As per Tuttosport’s print edition, Inter would be able to save €10 million before tax by offloading the midfielder to Ligue 1.
Marseille are coached by Vidal’s former Chile boss Jorge Sampaoli and he is thought to be keen on a reunion.
Inter are desperately looking to cut costs and lower their wage bill ahead of next season, so Vidal’s departure would be the start of that process for the Nerazzurri.
The club’s financial problems mean they are in danger of having to sell a key player in the summer, which could have serious repercussions on the future of head coach Antonio Conte.
In order to avoid losing star players, Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio will need to do brilliant work with Inter’s fringe players and find buyers for those who are unwanted and/or have high salaries.
Vidal has not featured for Inter since undergoing knee surgery two months ago.
