Inter risk losing their status as Serie A’s new dominant force if Antonio Conte walks out, a report in the Italian media warned today.

As per Gazzetta dello Sport’s print edition, last night’s 3-1 win over Roma confirmed the Nerazzurri are a class above everyone else in Italy, with the team now fully aware of its true strength.

Inter have everything required to begin a victorious cycle and should begin next season as heavy favourites to retain their title, for sporting and psychological reasons.

However, everything could come crumbling down if Conte decides to leave because of the club’s off-field turmoil.

Conte has got Inter playing from memory like he did with Italy at the European Championships in 2016, the Milan-based paper argued.

The Azzurri impressed everyone in France despite limited resources, but Conte still opted to leave at the end of the tournament and was replaced by Giampiero Ventura.

Conte’s future at Inter remains ‘indecipherable’, but before it is sorted there is the small matter of a trip to Juventus for the Derby d’Italia on Saturday.

The Bianconeri must win to keep their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification alive, while Inter are dreaming of kicking them out of the top four for the first time since 2011.
