Inter’s players should take ‘a great act of responsibility’ and agree to wage deferrals with Suning, according to a leading Italian football agent.

The Nerazzurri’s players are expected to reject a request from Steven Zhang to give up two months’ wages, in order to ease the club’s financial problems.

As things stand, Inter must pay the outstanding installments before the Italian Football Federation’s (FIGC) deadline on May 30, but FIGC president Gabriele Gravina has made it clear that they are free to agree further deferrals with their players.

Speaking to Radio Crc on Wednesday (via ilnapolionline.com), Oscar Damiani argued: “On the matter of Inter’s players rejecting the offer to give up two months’ wages, I’d say that clubs must respect their players’ contracts.

“However, it would be an act of great responsibility from the Italian champions if they agreed to spread these two installments over six months.”

Inter have been battling serious financial problems since the start of 2021 and uncertainty reigns over the future of the club, with owners Suning yet to clarify their plans for the Nerazzurri.

Zhang’s request to cut wages is part of their bid to reduce Inter’s costs by a reported 15-20%, following heavy revenue losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic and investment restrictions from China’s government.
