Romelu Lukaku’s birthday ‘celebrations’ are being greatly exaggerated by certain sections of the media, a report in Italy explained today.

Inter’s star striker was caught in a hotel restaurant at 3am last night with 23 others – including Achraf Hakimi, Ivan Perisic and Ashley Young – following the Nerazzurri’s 3-1 win over Roma.

As per FcInter1908.it, Lukaku had not organised any kind of party and was simply having a dinner to mark his 28th birthday (today).

Police intervened and fined Lukaku along with his teammates, but that was only for violating Italy’s curfew rules in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lukaku’s incident was compared by some this morning to one or two birthday parties organised by Juventus players recently, for which the Bianconeri banned those involved.

Those comparisons are far-fetched to say the least though, especially because Turin was in Italy’s ‘red zone’ at that point whereas Milan is currently a ‘yellow zone’.

Eating in a restaurant or hotel is allowed under the country’s COVID-19 rules, the report explained, and Lukaku was only eating beyond curfew time because Inter’s players didn’t leave San Siro until after midnight.

Inter are not expected to punish Lukaku or his teammates for the incident and the Belgian will therefore be available as normal for Saturday’s Derby d’Italia.
