Inter have earned the right for a guard of honour from arch rivals Juventus tomorrow, according to Nerazzurri legend Alessandro Altobelli.

Antonio Conte’s side were given a classy welcome by Sampdoria last weekend, with Claudio Ranieri organising the guard of honour for their first match after being confirmed as Serie A champions.

Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo admitted earlier he didn’t know whether his players would be paying tribute to Inter in the same way, but Altobelli believes his former team deserve that respect.

“It would be a nice gesture from Juventus (to give a guard of honour),” Altobelli, who scored more than 200 goals in a glittering 11-year career at Inter, told TuttoJuve.com today.

“They shouldn’t be the only team to do it though, all other teams should do it too.”

Inter arrive at tomorrow’s Derby d’Italia after a turbulent week behind the scenes, following Steven Zhang’s request – which appears to have been rejected – for players and staff to take pay cuts.

The Nerazzurri face an uncertain future due to their well-documented financial problems, but Altobelli urged his former side to enjoy their recent Scudetto triumph for now.

“I think Inter should enjoy the present,” the former striker added.

“They’ve won the Scudetto and it’s only right they celebrate this moment.

“As far as the financial difficulties are concerned, it’s a problem that other clubs have as well, not only Inter!”
