Lautaro Martinez has revealed Romelu Lukaku’s first words to him when the pair met two years ago.

Inter have won the Serie A title this season and their strike partnership deserves much of the credit for it, with Lautaro and Lukaku having formed one of Europe’s most prolific pairings.

Lukaku revealed today that the first time he met Lautaro, he promised El Toro’s father they would win something together within two years.

As part of the same interview with Italian broadcaster DAZN, Lautaro added: “When Lukaku arrived at Inter I’d already been there a year.

“When I met him on the first day, he told me: ‘I’m going to help you score a load of goals.’

“That’s where it all started.”

Lautaro also had words of praise for Christian Eriksen, who has turned his Inter career around during the second half of this season and is now a key part of Antonio Conte’s midfield.

“He is an artist,” El Toro said of the Danish international.

“I remember Eriksen’s first training session here, he scored two unbelievable goals from outside the box.”

Lautaro then had kind words for Matteo Darmian, one of Inter’s more surprising heroes during their title charge.

“Darmian is a professional, if you asked him he’d even play in goal,” the 23-year-old added.

Lautaro also picked out two key disappointments in Inter’s season which helped motivate them to win the scudetto.

“After our defeat against AC Milan (in October) and the exit from the UEFA Champions League, we changed our mindset a lot and our way of working, because we really wanted to win something,” he recalled.

“I thought we’d all end up close together in terms of points, I certainly didn’t expect us to be this far clear in the table.

“All of this is incredible to me, I’ve always finished second until now.”
