Inter will have no option but to sell at least one key player in the summer, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Corriere dello Sport’s print edition said it was ‘inevitable’ the Nerazzurri would sacrifice one of their stars before June 30, in order to balance the books.

One sale might not even be enough for Inter, as Suning look to address the serious financial problems plaguing the club before the transfer window.

Inter’s fans might not take it well if Suning start selling key players, the Rome-based paper warned, with some hoping they can revive their tenure at the club while others hope they will sell to a group like Oaktree Capital.

Nerazzurri president Steven Zhang made it very clear when he met club directors last week that Inter must follow a policy of austerity and cost-cutting, the report continued.

In the meantime they are continuing their talks with Oaktree Capital, who are thought to be interested in replacing Suning as owners if they supply them with a financing deal.

Elsewhere, Inter remain optimistic that they will respect the Italian Football Federation’s May 30 deadline regarding player salaries, but the situation is complex.

Inter’s players are thought to have rejected the proposal from Zhang to give up two months’ wages, and it seems they are unlikely to agree to deferring the installments into next season either.

Even if Inter do honour all their contracts before the end of the month, the report warned, there were still doubts over how ambitious Suning’s project could really be moving forward.
