Former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta believes that Inter were unfortunate to concede a late penalty in today’s 3-2 defeat to Juventus in Serie A.
The Bianconeri secured a late victory from the penalty spot as Juan Cuadrado was adjudged to have been fouled by Ivan Perisic, before stepping up to fire in the spot kick himself after referee Gianpaolo Calvarese awarded the decision.
Appearing as a guest on Italian television channel Sky Sport Italia to offer his thoughts on the match at the Allianz Stadium, Costacurta argued that the incident ought to have been a freekick to Inter for a foul by Cuadrado.
“I have not seen the foul that Calvarese saw. Actually, there is a contact, but Cuadrado searched for Perisic with his leg,” Costacurta claimed.
“I don’t understand why Cuadrado’s left leg should go in that direction. In my opinion it’s not a penalty,” he concluded.
The defeat sees Inter lose for the first time in Serie A since a 2-1 loss at Sampdoria in January, with the champions hoping to return to winning ways when they face Udinese in the final game of the season next Sunday.
