Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini insisted that there was no use debating the controversial incidents that occurred during their 3-2 defeat to Juventus today.
The Nerazzurri lost at the Allianz Stadium after a contentious late penalty, whilst Juventus had an earlier spot kick and both sides saw red cards, to Marcelo Brozovic and Rodrigo Bentancur respectively.
In an interview with Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle, as reported by FCInterNews.it, Stellini suggested that referee Gianpaolo Calvarese had made numerous contentious decisions, but that Inter were solely focused on enjoying their Scudetto.
“We went ahead with our celebrations, but we tried to bring calmness and our desire to win onto the pitch. The team he did what they had to do regardless of the incidents,” Stellini claimed.
“It is not up to us to comment on them, they are obvious and it is useless to comment on them. We are left with the joy of having won the Scudetto, we tried to win the game, the incidents speak for themselves.
“There are many, dwelling on just one would be an understatement. We tried to confirm on the pitch that we were the strongest team, but it could certainly have been better today.”
Having wrapped up the title, Inter are focusing their attention on next season and Stellini revealed what he and coach Antonio Conte were looking to improve upon.
“The improvements and the margins are always there, we have to go and look for them. We have established a strong base and this year we won the Scudetto.
“In the future we will have to improve in our approach to the big matches and especially in the European games. This year we created many scoring chances but we weren’t able to take them in the best way.
“Certainly, from a qualitative point of view we have room for improvement. Playing high-level matches helps to develop.
“We are approaching next season with serenity. We are fully enjoying this moment, we still have one week to honour the title and show that we are the strongest with a great mentality, which we did even today.2
Nerazzurri striker Lautaro Martinez saw a goal disallowed against Juventus and Stellini felt the 23-year-old has scope to develop, whilst likening him to fellow Argentine forward Sergio Aguero, of Manchester City.
“He is a striker who certainly reminds me of Aguero, he has a lot of room for improvement, he has grown a lot and has worked hard. He also does a lot of the dirty work to help the team and it is not easy to find a striker with his characteristics.
“We are very happy of him, if we had to listen to the rumours of the transfer market every day we would have to bury our heads,” he concluded.
