Inter assistant coach Cristian Stellini claimed that the Nerazzurri deserved more from their 3-2 defeat to Juventus today, but did not want the result to dampen their Scudetto joy.

Antonio Conte’s side fell to a late defeat at the Allianz Stadium through Juan Cuadrado’s penalty, in a match that saw both sides receive first half spot kicks and red cards after the break.

Speaking to InterTV on behalf of Conte, Stellini claimed that the scoreline did not reflect Inter’s performance but it was important not to let it affect the mood after a successful season.

“We are convinced it was not a fair reflection. For us it was important to come here and show that we are the best. We tried, and in my humble opinion we also succeeded, and were deserving of something more overall,” the 47-year-old claimed.

“We must not let this match change our feeling however. We must continue to enjoy the moment, with our pride and joy for our great achievement.”

Whilst Juventus showed aggression as they sought victory, Inter attempted to remain composed in possession and Stellini suggested it was something that had improved over the campaign.

“We work consistently on this aspect, and only with experience and matches of this kind can we grow and overcome difficulties. We didn’t start very well, but then we recovered, even drawing the match. We have become a strong team.”

Inter have faced Juventus in four matches across Serie A and the Coppa Italia this season, with January’s league victory their only win. However, Stellini argued that the Nerazzurri had bridged the gap since Juventus’ nine years of domestic dominance.

“The feeling is that in the four matches this year against Juventus, who remain a point of reference having won for nine consecutive years, we played evenly. The result was sometimes not true, but we are aware and have grown. We want to continue growing, in view of next year and the Champions League,” he concluded.
